What is PRDS?

 

Peachtree Rainbow Deaf Society, Inc. is a non-profit organization of the Deaf Gays and Lesbians that was formed in July, 1998.  The purpose of the organization is establish and maintain a society of the Deaf in general to encourage and promote the educational, economical, social events and recreational.  The general meeting occurs once every two months and social event occurs a few times a month.

HISTORY

 

July 11, 1998: PRDS was founded during the meeting at Disabled Action Center in Decatur.

July 1998: PRDS was incorporated.

April 1999: PRDS' first fundraising was at The Other Side doing car wash.

September 1999: First Anniversary was held at Ramanda Inn & Conference in Midtown.

May 2000: First major successful fundraising was made at Music Midtown for a weekend. Over $1,000 was earned.

October 2000: 2nd Anniversary was held at Maggio Little Italy Restaurant in Lenox Mall area.

December 2000: First cabin trip to North Georgia for the weekend.

May 2001: New record of sucessful fundraising was made at Music Midtown for a weekend. Over $4,000 was earned.

October 2001: 3rd Anniversary was held at Park Tavern on Piedmont Park in Midtown.

September 2002: 4th Anniversary was held at The 173 Carlyle House in Norcross.

June 2003: PRDS was successful in its bid to host the 20th Biennial Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf (RAD) conference here in Atlanta in 2007. The bidding took place at the RAD conference in Orlando, Florida. The conference hotel will be the Sheraton Colony Square.

November 2003: 5th Anniversary was held at Carbo's Restaurant in Buckhead.
